Time to Deck The Halls
I’ve always enjoyed decorating for Christmas. It was so fun to pull out my mom’s Christmas bins after Thanksgiving, decorate the mantel, and rediscover all the ornaments that had been packed away for the last 11 months.
Over the years my go-to formula for adding a warm and festive Christmas feel to my own home has become dried oranges, pretty paper chains, velvet and satin ribbons, and a bit of greenery.
Ribbon and dried oranges:
Ribbon is so versatile, use it to wrap gifts, tie a bow on a candlestick, or, my personal favorite, hang dried oranges in a window to catch the sun.
Dried oranges are lovely for decorating. Partly because they are so beautiful and partly because they can be composted once you are done with them. You can create garlands to hang on a tree, banister, above a window…the options are endless!
Italian Paper + Potted Winter Bulbs:
Italian paper comes in elegant patterns that will immediately add a touch of nostalgia to your decorating. Use these pretty papers to create paper chains or to wrap presents.
This past November I potted up some narcissus and hyacinth in an antique stoneware server. I love the pop of fresh green that the buds are now adding to this corner.
Hand painted paper ornaments, fairy lights, oranges, and a mini paper chain for our tree this year.
I hope these ideas leave you inspired to get started creating a warm and festive atmosphere in your own home this season.
